The Cathedral of Bom Jesus (Cathedral of the Good Jesus) is the most important church in Daman, located inside the walls of Moti Daman Fort. Built in the 16th century, it is a stunning example of Portuguese Baroque architecture.
History & Architecture
Built in 1603, the Cathedral of Bom Jesus features a grand facade with Baroque detailing, a tall bell tower, and an ornate interior with gilded altars and religious paintings. It is one of the oldest churches in India.
What to See Inside
The main altar dedicated to Bom Jesus, side chapels, colonial-era paintings, and the sacristy with historical artefacts are the highlights. The church is still an active place of worship.
Visiting Hours
Open daily from 7 AM to 12 PM and 4 PM to 7 PM. Entry is free. Photography is allowed in the exterior but restricted inside during mass.
How to Reach
The cathedral is inside Moti Daman Fort, a 10-minute walk from Daman city centre. Auto-rickshaws are available from the main market.
